Florida Hometown Heroes Program Reaches New Heights in 2023

Updated: Aug 17, 2023

The Florida Hometown Heroes program is making it easier than ever for hard-working Floridians to achieve the dream of homeownership. In just two years, the program has helped over 7,000 families purchase homes, and it is showing no signs of slowing down.

In 2023, the Hometown Heroes program received a significant boost in funding, with $100 million allocated to the program through the Live Local Act. This funding has allowed the program to expand its reach and offer even more assistance to Florida's hometown heroes.

One of the biggest changes to the Hometown Heroes program in 2023 is the increase in the maximum down payment assistance amount. Previously, homebuyers could receive up to $25,000 in down payment assistance. Now, the maximum assistance amount has been increased to $35,000. This means that homebuyers can now afford to purchase a more expensive home, or they can use the additional funds to pay for closing costs or other expenses.

Another major change to the Hometown Heroes program in 2023 is the removal of the job requirement. Previously, homebuyers were only eligible for the program if they were employed by a Florida-based employer. Now, the program is open to all Florida residents, regardless of their employment status. This change makes the program more accessible to a wider range of people, including stay-at-home parents, retirees, and the unemployed.

The Hometown Heroes program is also expanding its reach to new communities in 2023. In addition to the 67 counties that were already eligible for the program, the following counties have been added:

  • Alachua

  • Baker

  • Calhoun

  • Clay

  • Columbia

  • Dixie

  • Escambia

  • Franklin

  • Gadsden

  • Gulf

These new counties are home to a diverse population of hardworking Floridians who deserve the opportunity to achieve the dream of homeownership. The Hometown Heroes program is making that dream a reality for thousands of families each year.

In addition to the changes mentioned above, the Hometown Heroes program is also offering a number of new benefits in 2023. These benefits include:

  • A lower first mortgage interest rate

  • Additional special benefits to those who have served and continue to serve their country

  • A streamlined application process

  • More flexible eligibility requirements

The Hometown Heroes program is a valuable resource for Florida's hometown heroes. If you are a first-time homebuyer who is struggling to save for a down payment, the Hometown Heroes program can help you make your dream of homeownership a reality.
